N.B.It is important to file from inside to the outside of the cutter. Otherwise, the file will wear off due to excess friction with the hard chrome outside the cutter.

Now you make two points of contact- one with the top of the cutting tooth and other with the top of the file guide. This process helps in placing the file mostly down inside the cutter and a little portion above. This will help in filing the cutter efficiently to deliver a holistic sharpening.

Step 3:

Then keeping the file flat with the cutter, start making your strokes. Make sure to count the number of strokes you are making. Once you are done with one tooth, continue the same process with the same number of strokes throughout the chain.

Step 4:

After going through the entire chain for angled filing, it’s time for the flat top edges. Grab your flat file and depth gauge. Use the drop center depth gauge. Place the depth gauge over the blade. The drop center gauge will hide the total cutter except for the top part. Balance the depth gauge properly with your fingers and start filing with your flat file. File from inside out when you are filing. Just a few strokes on each of them will do the job.
